Steve Staunton
Staunton made his first appearance for Liverpool in September 1988 and starred for the team through out the 1988- 1989 campaign. He was a vital member of the Liverpool side that won the league title in 1990 and his fine play earned him a transfer to Aston Villa and he was in fine form for the club, helping them to victory over Manchester United in the 1994 Coca Cola Cup final. He won the league cup once again in 1996 prior a move back to Liverpool in 1998. In 2000, he returned to Villa, spending 3 more seasons at the club. In total during his career he starred for the Midlands club on over 300 occasions.
Jason McAteer
McAteers football career really started while playing for Bolton at the age of twenty. He became a freuent fixture in the squad while joining and went on to make over 125 appearances for the club, in a 3 year period. He impressed in the football league during his time at Bolton and in turn that earned him a move to Liverpool at the start of the 1995- 1996 season for £4.5 million. He soon became a hero with the fans and a regular in the Republic of Ireland first team, playing in the 1994 and 2002 world cup finals. During his 4 year spell at Liverpool he made nearly 140 appearances for the club and was in a side that included Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen and Jamie Redknapp. Towards the end of the 1998-99 season, McAteer signed for Blackburn and helped the club gain promotion the following campaign to the premiership. After a successful era with Rovers, McAteer moved to Sunderland in 2001 and is now playing for Tranmere.
Gary Kelly
Kelly made his debut for the Republic of Ireland during the 1991 – 1992 season, the season which they won the league title. He has played for the club over the glorious periods and the disastrous periods. He was part of the Leeds side that reached the semi finals of the champions league and is now very much a part of their side that is playing in the second tier of English football. He has now made over 500 appearances for the club and is a regular starter at Elland Road. He made over 50 appearances playing for the Republic of Ireland, including the 1994 and 2002 world cup finals. |
