The Irish met Turkey in Dublin in this opening match qualifier for Euro 92. John Aldridge played his finest match for Eire and he opened the goal scoring for the club with a goal after fifteen minutes. With five minutes remaining of the first half, David O’Leary scored to make it 2-0 to the Irish. The Irish improved their game even further during the second half as John Aldridge scored his second on the hour mark. Niall Quinn scored his deserved goal on 66 minutes to make it 4-0 to the Irish. John Aldridge capped off a fine performances scoring his third goal of the encounter on the 73rd minute of the match. It was their largest win in seven years since November 1983.

This was one of the finest ever results in the history of Republic of Ireland football. The Irish dominated this match held at the Giants stadium in East Rutherford of America. They played outstandingly well against a side which proved to be the future finalists and won the match through a spectacular goal scored by Ray Houghton with a strike from nearly 30 yards out. |
